I would prefer not to.

Herman Melville

It is translated as "しない方がいいと思います" (from a novel, "Bartleby" translated by Arimichi Makino). A man who works as a scrivener in a law firm returns calmly even if he is told to do some work or he is told to get out. Is the reason why the employer cannot give up on him that the employer is forced to face his own timidity in which he has lived with a lid on the thought of disagreeing with the way of the world every time?
