danna

a word of Buddhist origin

This is one of words that originated in ancient India, and eventually was brought to the West, and to East, even to Japan. "Danna" has its origin "dāna" in Sanskrit. That became donum (gift) in Latin, and furthermore became donor or donation in English. Both danna and donor mean giving the most important thing for a person to some other person. It is money or his/her own organ from a person to person. Giving has been regarded as a universal action beyond ethnic groups.
