The researcher who helped a person who was in a panic because he lost his note with the the name of the hotel he was staying at at the airport in the U.S. felt like he got power from the person he helped. He felt himself as "part of the problem" and did not separate if from himself, which made him feel "The window was opened." It  shows the nature of volunteerism of putting oneself in a vulnerable condition consciously. From "Volunteerism" by the network theorist.
