A calendar is not compliled just for planting. A calendar is a frame in which people leave their thought.

From a novel, "Cassowary." An astronomer, who is a son of firefighter and lives in a hermitage in a rustic village for some reason, is asked to take office as an important duty called "wind reader" by a man entrusted with the reconstruction of the firefighting organization, but he flatly refused the offer. One day a fire broke out and he was told again that a day might be a calendar unit but people lived "sticking" to that day," which finally made him  accept it. After the fire was extinguished, the scholar reflected on the title words from his deceased father.
